Poll

I think there may be a flaw in the poll that is directly to the right. It doesn't seem to keep track of the votes.
Has anyone ever tried buttermilk pie? Jeff and I had some for dessert on our anniversary. It was delicious. It's definitely a must try, but only once a year or so. If it tastes that good, it must be bad for you, right?

This is how I found Veronica...
She woke up this morning at 5:30am...'nough said.

Five years...

For those of you that view the blog from time to time, beware! The following message is intended for my husband. Feel free to read and know a little of how I feel about him or don't read...and mind your own business ;) This blog is not private so please feel free to enjoy me being a romantic...whoda thunk it! Oh yeah, if you want a little more umph...play "our song."

It's about 10am and if you were to ask me what I was doing at this very moment 5 years ago I would respond...changing my life forever. Five years ago I met my bestfriend in the LA Temple and married him. Although, I think I may have scared him a little since I showed up late. My thoughts on marriage have certainly changed since I've been married. Five years ago I would have said that marriage was all about love and compromise and happy feelings. Now I think I would have to say that marriage is all about hard work and sacrifice. Love is what makes you do all the hard work and sacrifice. I am grateful that Jeff does all that for me everyday. I am grateful for how much he loves our kids. I don't say thank you enough to Jeff, but I know that he sacrifices and works hard for me. I'm so happy that I married my bestfriend and I know that all these years have been a blessing. Especialmente para Jeff...You were the only one that knew how to help me and how to support me when our two beautiful babies were born and I would not have had it any other way. Fuiste el unico y eres mi unico. You're the only one that knew me enough to challenge me. Te amo todos los dias mas y mas.

Tummy time for David.

Bath time

I took David in for his 4 month check-up and immunizations. I think David had an idea that he was going to get shots because he was really upset the whole time we were at the doctor. He took his shots pretty well, he didn't cry much afterwards. That was nice for me because I hate seeing him feel pain. His weight and height were average, they didn't comment on his head size...hmmm. He weighed 15.8 lbs. His new thing is rolling over. It's bad news because we can't leave him on the bed or anywhere high now because his instinct is to roll over. Back to stomach is what he does. Veronica started rolling over that way too. He can do it stomach to back when he gets a little angry. He sticks his butt in the air and manages to shift his weight in the direction he wants to roll and manages to move quite a bit. That's the latest and greatest news of David...more to come.

Exclusive interview

Zuma Adventure

It was a lovely day at the beach...we were just at the wrong beach. David's first beach trip was pretty miserable. It was really cold and windy.
Veronica had fun playing in the sand. She's wearing her daddy's aloha shirt. As we were leaving Jeff asked, "Is it ever worth it to come to the beach?" If you have kids you can relate.

Red Dragon

Tengu in Westwood. This is what I do when I am without kids and hubby. So far it's only been once, but I think I deserve it.
Who knew that Veronica was an expert at playing dominos. I think she was cheating, but her abuelos didn't seem to mind.
This is Veronica's best friend. She used to call her "Mickey" but has learned that her name is Vicky. Vicky's birthday party.
We've been trying to get Veronica to release her frustrations out on the pinata. She finally understands the concept...hit (or as Veronica likes to say... POP) pinata and it gives you candy. We're still working on her candy gathering technique. She was a little sad that she had to pop the princesses, Sleeping Beauty being her favorite.

Does it seem like all babies do is...

The Boxer

I walked into the nursery and saw my little girl with a gash above her eye. What happened? She's okay. She got the edge of a table trying to pick up a piece of paper. I guess with a two year old I should've expected her to turn up with some kind of an "ouch."

San Pedro Fish Market

Today we took the family and joined my parents and brother at the SPFM (refer to title of blog). Special occasions always merit good eating. Needless to say, several pounds of shrimp and a poor big fish later we were very satisfied. If you dare venture to the SPFM here are a few tips...
1) don't expect to eat right away 2) bring your own tapatio, or else you'll have to buy your own 3) bring some "wet-naps" or in our case we used baby wipes 4) bring some patience 5) don't sit too close to the karaoke set-up (which we'll see if David has any long term hearing impairments down the road) 6) bring cash...oh yeah, bring LOTS OF CASH 7) if you see a table, sit down think later 8) you must order the shrimp and bread, you'll be surprised how fast one loaf gets scarfed 9) don't worry about looking like a caveman while eating, look around...everyone is up to their elbows in the sauce 10) abandon all notions of using a fork.
If I can think of any other tips I will add them. If you want good, fresh seafood stop at the SPFM at least once while in LA.
Oh yeah, I forgot...if you're looking for a way to pay for the food, just have your daughter go up to sing her heart out at the karaoke station and she can score some cash from the on lookers. They're usually drunk, but I'll take a few extra bucks for a few minutes of karaoke. They must be between the ages of 7-14, the on lookers are more willing to give money if they're young and cute for trying.
Hopefully this was helpful.

Look at the spiky hair David is sporting.
Veronica says: Rica will hold 'em.
Mama says: Ok, go sit on the couch and you can hold David.
Veronica picks up her cup and climbs on the couch. She holds her arms out for David. Mama positions David on Veronica's lap so he will be supported and held. Veronica puts her arms around David, but never lets go of her cup.
David says: Wah wah wah.
Veronica says: You hold 'em.
Veronica quickly places her hands on David's back and pushes him away from her.

Group Picture

This is only one of SEVERAL pictures taken. How do kids always know when you want a photo with everyone smiling. You can't see Veronica's right hand...she was holding a paintbrush and wouldn't let go of it and kept looking down at it. Hannah was doing a good job holding little David, and Hailey had it after a few photos.

Potty Training - Movie Method

I guess if she sits on her potty for the entire movie she might go in it.

How a pineapple grows

I was surprised to see how a pineapple actually grows, "in the wild." I never really thought much about how pineapples grow.

Child #2

I'm trying my best to make sure that David's life is well documented, as Veronica's was. Sometimes David is looking cute or is actually doing something cute and I think to take pictures or videos and usually I can't find any batteries. So, my goal is to always have batteries available, batteries that actually work for more than one picture, so when there is a moment I can capture it. Speaking as a #2 child, I see the family albums and can see the excitement for the first but when #2 comes around one doesn't always have a camera in hand. I'm sure David won't have as many pictures as Veronica did but I will certainly try to take as many pictures as possible. She has a ton of pictures considering we lost several months of pictures when our hard drive crashed.
As far as any news, we're going to Idaho Falls for Memorial Day weekend. Veronica is very excited to play with her cousins - Hannah and Hailey. We are going to drive up, which is going to be interesting to say the least. Veronica has turned into a chatterbox, and I can understand about half the things she says. It is a jumble of english and spanish and mumble. She understands most things I say in spanish, which is good considering she doesn't really speak it. I dropped the ball on the whole spanish thing, it was a lot harder to actually speak it with her. Oh yeah, I was released from the YW and now am in the Primary. The verdict is still out on how I feel about that. Since there are only about 3 kids in the nursery they just kind of add them to the Primary. I've walked into the Primary room and there's Veronica sitting in the little kid chairs and loving every minute. I don't think she quite understands the meaning of reverance or that you have to sit and not play the whole time. Jeff is still the Ward Exec. Secretary.

Morning time

As of late Veronica has been coming into our bedroom at around 8am and she gets into the bed and lays down next to David. After about 6am I lay David down in our bed because I need to get another hour of sleep or just want to cuddle with him.

Shut Down

This is an example of how Veronica skips her scheduled nap time and then goes and goes until she drops on the floor. It's about 5pm and Veronica just stopped. A minute before this happened she was jumping on the couch and very hyper.
I doesn't matter what she's doing, she just passes out. She's getting too heavy for me to lift her, so most of times she just has to stay on the floor because I can't lift her.

Single Mom Wrap-up

Well, I tried to write everyday but after a while I decided that sleeping was higher on the priority list than updating my blog about being a "single" mother. Suffice it to say, it was hard and I am not in a hurry to do it again. I was pretty proud of myself for making sure that Veronica didn't starve and that she got a bath at least once in the entire week.
Today is Mother's Day and it makes me realize how blessed we are to have at least one person that loves us unconditionally and is willing to sacrifice all that they are to be loving and nurturing. Thank you mother and thank you to those that are doing this great thing.
David loves his big sister.

Day 2

Today was a good day. Eventhough it was close to 100 degrees out I managed to keep the apartment cool. David refused to be anywhere but in my arms, which made for a pretty unproductive day. I managed okay until about 5pm. David had a melt-down and I was pooped. Veronica skips her naps every now and then and just passes out sometimes doing the funniest things. Today she skipped her nap, which turned out good because she entertained David while I tried to wash dishes or something like that. At about 6pm she was lying on the floor coloring and started to color slower and slower until she closed her eyes and fell asleep. She just goes and goes until her battery runs out. Now I hope David sleeps okay. So far his sleep schedule is pretty good, for a newborn, and it's actually a schedule. He goes down somewhere between 830 and 9pm and sleeps until close to 2-3am then eats and he's back down until 6am and eats and wants to be up for the day but I'm not ready so we just hang out in bed until I'm ready. When I'm ready to get up that is when he falls asleep for an hour or so. Pretty soon he'll only wake once, which I can't wait for.
Alright, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully more productive and less heat so I don't feel so sluggish.

Day 1 as a single mom

I managed to survive one night with the kids and without Jeff. Jeff had to go away for a business trip...I pretty much call it a vacation.
Today will be the real test, since Veronica and David will pretty much have me all day long. I think David has cried more today simply because sometimes I need to use the bathroom or wash dishes or something that requires me to put him down. Veronica pretty much takes care of herself, except when she wants food or needs me to change her diaper. She asks me to change her diaper now, and if I don't respond right away she definitely lets me know. I will write more tomorrow.
Oh man do I respect single parents...it's not easy.
Veronica likes to climb into David's crib and play with his bears.

Smilin' David
All 13.2 pounds of him. The pediatrician suggested we not feed him so much...I think he looks plenty healthy.

Nap time...David doesn't understand what nap time is yet.

The Easter Bunny took it away...

Ever since we introduced Veronica into the egg-citing world of Easter egg hunts and the Easter Bunny, she blames a missing toy on the Easter Bunny. Veronica gets very serious and says "the Easter Bunny took it away."

Monday, April 09, 2007

On the hunt

Could the Easter Bunny have placed the egg in a more obvious spot? (If you don't see the egg, it's on the rocking chair and it's yellow) Veronica! She walked right by the not so hidden egg. It took her a while to figure out that she was looking for eggs. She had lots of fun once she figured it out.

Yeah right!
Veronica didn't want to sit still and David...well, the picture says it all.

Veronica is looking pretty in her white Easter dress. We decided to take our pictures before church, that way Veronica's hair and dress aren't messy and ratty after nursery. I don't know what they do in nursery, she comes out of there with no shoes, messy hair and food/crayon/marker stains all over.

David looks like he's ready for prom.
Baby blessing tux.

Best Buds

This is the famous "Baby Ally"

Veronica loves her and loves it when she comes over.

Sunday, February 04, 2007

Jeff and I drove up to Riverside to visit with Veronica's favorite cousins. Ok, they are her only cousins, but she loves them and was very excited to play.
This is the Mission Inn, very beautiful.

Veronica and Hannah (favorite cousin) were playing in a little fountain in one of the many courtyards in the hotel.
